Artist Biography

Mehboob Rajwani is a self-taught artist from Tanzania and is currently based in Burnaby, where he works from his home studio. He enjoys painting world landscapes and wildlife and has generated pieces that explore abstraction and the human figure. “I like using vibrant colours in my work because I want to engage the viewer into a brighter way of seeing and experiencing life. Through my belief in the Higher One, I view these images through an artistic lens, looking at every angle, shape, ray of light as a direct receptacle for creation”. Mehboob has exhibited works at the Roundhouse Community Centre, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Silk Purse Art Gallery in West Vancouver, and North Shore Arts in North Vancouver. He is a current member and artist of the Mood Disorder Association of BC.

Artist Statement

Mardi Gras is celebrated in faces depicting masks of love, hate, despair and hope. My representation of humanity is demonstrated by the intricacies of bright colours and its festivities. Through joining all cultures together and blending them into one another, Mardi Gras creates a peaceful symbol of unification and celebration. Here, difference is encouraged and complimentary to the final vision.
